Brief Introduction of the Department
The Department of Bengali was established in 2014. The Department offers three courses as of now – M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D in Bengali. We refine our syllabus time to time. The department has one Departmental Library for students and scholars.Efficient faculty members run the department smoothly. The Department of Bengali is a combination of hard-working students, scholars and diligent teachers.

Extension activity by the department:
- The students of the department actively participate in programmes of NSS and Bratachari throughout the year.
Major Strengths of the department:
- Large number of applications for admission in each course offered by the Depatment.
- Most of the student come from below poverty line. Evidently, higher education is not an easy access for them. They have showed tremendous character to overcome the problems, both economic and regional, and to take part in the academic endeavour of this University.
- The research scholars are very hard-working and supportive. Some of them are well-established in Colleges or higher educational institutes. They have their own research papers in journals and books. They also guide our junior students as far as possible.
- Eminent Professors of reputed Universities have gladly engaged themselves in teaching and various academic bodies in the Department.
- Young, energetic, responsible, cooperative faculty members are doing their level best to run the department.
- Students of the department perform good in different competitive examination like SSC, NET, SET, etc.

- Some of our students got Govt job or other services. These encourage other students and teachers too.
Major Challenges of the department
- The University is located in such an area where literacy rate in female is not high. The department wants to enlighten and empower the girl students academically, financially and socially.
- Demographically, South 24 Parganas is mostly populated with lower income group people. The department sensitize students to overcome these barriers and is eager to provide support as much as possible.
- The department guides the students to grow awareness regarding women’s right, domestic violence, proper nutrition and early pregnancy related issues.
Future plan of the department:
- The department looks forward to open U.G. Course to provide the students foundational grooming.
- The department applied for UGC project and looking forward for the grant for extensive research work.
- The department wishes to offer few short-term course in future based on thrust areas of department.
- The department is eager to carry out extension services in the locality to sensitize people the need of women education and women related issues.
- In future we will publish research journals and will also try to publish another journal to provide our research scholars to articulate their research findings.
